Audi Explains Vorsprung durch Technik Behind 2013 R8

After five years since the model was launched in 2007, Audi finally gave the R8 a makeover. But the changes seemed small by comparison to what was expected, and there weren’t even any boosts in power.
However, Audi is all about the Vorsprung durch Technik (Advancement through Technology), and they say an iconic sportscar like this does not need a complete makeover, rather tweaks here and there.

What does it take to become the new Audi R8? How about a new double-clutch gearbox instead of the old single-clutch, something that drove man customers away in the past.

There are some cosmetic changes as well, as the 2013 R8 wears the much discussed full-LED headlighta six-point grille and redesigned intakes. Round the back, the biggest change in our opinion would be the exhaust system. You can no longer tell them apart, as both the oval tips of the R8 V10 and the quad tips of the R8 V8 have been dropped in favor of a simple but very cool circular design.

The 4.2-liter R8 and R8 Spyder are powered by the same 4.2-liter V8 which produces 424 hp (430 PS) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft). Meanwhile, the 5.2-liter in the R8 V10 models makes 518 hp (525 PS) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft). There’s also a new version called the R8 V10 Plus that has 542 hp (550 PS).
