Audi e-tron Sportback Rendered, the Concept Looked Better

The Audi e-tron is cool, but it could be a lot cooler. We hoped that with the Sportback version, designers will step outside their comfort zone, but that hasn't really happened.

The test prototypes for the "coupe" version of the electric SUV have been spied completely undisguised. This allows us to say that the two renderings published by the Russian website Kolesa are about as good as actual Audi photos.

This is a car that's as classy as a BMW X4 or Range Rover Evoque yet it doesn't directly harm the environment in any way. What's not to love? The front end, for starters.

Audi had a concept for the e-tron Sportback back in 2017, which looked better in a number of ways. First, its grille was all blocked off, silver, connected to a large black frame and the LED headlights. In a way, the design study was as bold as the Q8. But the version people will buy will get a normal grille with louvers because marketing studies told Audi you want something conventional.

Another thing we desired was some wider hips. Just look at the Jaguar I-Pace or the Tesla Model Y - they're all kinds of muscular and don't resemble internal crossovers with internal combustion in any way. Rearview cameras are basically the full extent of Audi's creativity.

Regarding the powertrain, the e-tron Sportback should have a standard "55" system with twin motors packing a combined 265 kW (355-hp US or 360 HP in Europe), with an overboost of 300 kW (402-hp) for seconds of fast overtaking. A performance version should be on its way as well, rumors suggesting it will wear an S badge.

the battery capacity of the Sportback should give it a similar range of about 204 miles (348km). That's not much, but Audi is said to have prioritized reliability over everything else.
