We've known all along that the third Audi e-tron model will be a sedan of sorts. And today, we get to see it, thanks to the first official photos being leaked ahead of the LA Auto Show debut.
The e-tron GT is technically a concept, although one that's so close to production that it has regular seatbelts for the rear seats. The project is a collaboration between Audi and Porsche, which might be one of the reasons this is about as sleek as the Taycan.
According to the info that was released together with the images, the GT measures almost 5 meters long and 2 meters wide with the mirrors, about the same size as the A7 Sportback. So it's a proper-sized machine and not a direct rival for the Tesla Model 3.
We're big fans of the design. While Tesla is trying to get rid of its car grilles, the e-tron GT proudly makes allows it to dominate the front end, despite not serving a real purpose. The sports car character of this concept is also brought out by the strong shoulder lines, which are once again reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan. Stuttgart also seems to have influenced the rear of the car, which features the kind of sloping roof and adaptive trunk wing that wouldn't look out of place on a 911.
Why does an electric car need a rear diffuser? Because it's said to produce 590 PS, about 50% more than the e-tron SUV, which should make Audi a dynamic match for the P100D in the event of a drag race.
The interior is another triumph of Audi design, very minimalist, but firmly belonging to the digital era. Instead of leather, they used Alcantara and a grey manmade material with a space-age look. Expect production to begin at the dedicated Audi EV factory around the middle of 2020.
