Audi Confirms Miguel Molina in the DTM

Audi AG shocked the DTM fans on Thursday when announcing their official factory lineup for the season to come. Unlike in the previous few seasons, the German manufacturer will align 5 works driver on the DTM grid. However, that's not a bigger news than the one that 21-year old Spanish driver Miguel Molina will be the one to join the existing Audi lineup in the DTM.

Molina is arguably an unknown figure to the racing fans in Germany, as this will be his first racing season in which he'll get behind the wheel of a non-Formula car. Since moving from karting to single-seaters, Molina has competed in the Spanish Formula Junior 1600, Formula Renault 3.5 Series and Superleague Formula (2009).

Miguel is not only a charming young man, he’s very quick as well. Even two years ago he was very fast in tests with the A4 DTM. But at the age of 18 we felt that a move into the DTM would have been a bit too early for him. That’s why I’m delighted to see that in these tests he confirmed his performance and the good impression he left before,” said Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport.

Molina will therefore join works drivers Mattias Ekstrom, Timo Scheider (both double DTM champions), Martin Tomczyk and Tom Kistensen's replacement Oliver Jarvis, recently promoted to the factory team by Audi.

Driving for Audi in the DTM is simply fantastic. Audi is a fascinating brand with superb cars and the DTM has proven to be one of the world’s toughest racing series. I’ll give everything to live up to the expectations placed on me,” said the 21-year old Spaniard.

Additionally, Audi confirmed that British racer Katherine Legge will switch from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline to Audi Team Rosberg in 2010 – where she'll partner Markus Winkelhock – while Alexandre Prémat and Mike Rockenfeller will drive for Audi Team Phoenix this year.
