So far, we all knew the Lamborghini Urus would arrive in 2017, but now Audi CEO Rupert Stadler explains that the Raging Bull’s SUV is set to be launched in 2018.
Talking to autocar, Stadler revealed that the vehicle has an established place in Lamborghini’s product plan and that it won’t stray too far from the Urus concept. Now that Lamborghini has the new Aventador and the even newer Huracan, the Urus will make sure the Italian automaker has all the weapons it needs to expand its reach.
Audi has previously announced it would be the entity that develops all of the VW Group SUV and now the CEO has confirmed the Germans are handling the Urus.
Lamborghini’s Urus will be underpinned by the VW Group’s third-generation SUV arghitecture. This will be shared with the second-generation Audi Q7, which should make its debut in 2015, as well as with the future Bentley SUV, slated for a 2016 launch. Other VW group SUVs, such as the third-gen Porsche Cayenne, will follow later on.
Of course, while all these models will share an important number of components, each will offer its unique feel. Speaking of this, Stadler was aksed if the Urus will be the bad boy of the SUV family, but he didn’t offer a clear answer on wheter this will be the most extreme of the lot. We can’t see things going any other way though.
Just as important, Audi’s CEO revealed the company is currently considering offering a Q8. This will come as a more upmarket proposition. Audi believes there’s plenty of room on the SUV market, so, if the Q8 receives the green light, it won’t share customers with the Bentley SUV.
