Audi Australia Names New Managing Director

After Joerg Hofmann announced he will leave the company, Audi Australia quickly found a new man for the job. Taking over the Managing Director position from Hoffman is Uwe Hagen, who previously hold the position of Head of Audi Sales for the Western German region.

Hofmann has moved to Germany, as managing director of AUDI AG’s Retail Network, based at the company’s headquarters in Ingolstadt.

Since 2004, Hagen has been responsible for sales of around 40,000 cars per year for the Audi brand, having been in charge with a 130-strong dealer network. Before joining Audi, Hagen worked for none other than BMW, where he served in between 1990-2004. Before this, Hagen worked with Ford in Europe.

The 52-year-old will, however, have a difficult task from now on. He will have to carry on Hofmann’s performance, under whose management Audi recorded its fifth year of record growth in 2009.

Hofmann has had several important achievements within the company since he first took the managing director position in 2004, including the opening of the world’s largest Audi Terminal, known as the Audi Lighthouse Sydney, and posting a 2009 year end result of 11,310 units - an increase of 20 percent over the previous sales record.

In the five years since the end of 2004 when Hofmann arrived in Australia, sales have tripled from 3,700 units (2004 result) and market share has also increased threefold from 0.5 percent to 1.55 percent (according to VFACTS total passenger and SUV sales FY 2009).
