Audi at Goodwood Festival of Speed

One of the most anticipated automotive events in the UK, the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 3-5), will be yet another perfect opportunity for manufacturers to show off their best, biggest, oldest vehicles (and drivers) in their garages. Audi is no exception and today the German manufacturer has detailed its presence at the event.

The Germans, which will have the role of featured marque at the event, will bring along no less than 15 current and historic Audi racing cars, including Auto Union Type C and Type D Dual Compressor Silver Arrows, Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO, Audi Sport quattro S1 or the Audi quattro A2.

The cars will be driven by celebrities coming from all types of fields, from racing to music. Thus, behind the wheel of one of the 15 cars will get World Rally Champions Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist and Hannu Mikkola, Jacky Ickx and even Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.

Mason for instance will get behind the wheel of the 1938 Auto Union Type D, in its very last race before being retired. “It’s a great honour for me to be allowed to drive this car on its last outing, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity,” Mason said.

Jacky Ickx will drive the 1939 Auto Union Type D Dual Compressor. As did Mason, the former Formula 1 racing driver is excited about the upcoming event. “It’s a privilege to be allowed to drive this Auto Union racing car - at Goodwood of all places, this unique event,” he said.

The entire Audi line-up at the event will also be featuring the company's R8R, R8, R10 and R15, the 2007 Audi A4 DTM, the Audi A4 STC from 1996, the Audi V8 quattro DTM, the 1988 Audi 200 quattro TransAm and the Audi R8 LMS. Motorcycles will also be present as Audi will bring along Ewald Kluge's DKW 250 SS.
