Audi Announces US Pricing for A8 L W12

The 2012 Audi A8 L is a technological flagship for the Ingolstadt carmaker, a veritable marvel of refinement and exclusivity. Audi America’s management group has announced the prices for the new generation of the A8 L W12 model, which starts at $135.675.

That’s what we call expensive, but then again, 500 horsepower is what we’d call really powerful. For the money, Audi throws in a panoramic sunroof, comfort seats with ventilation and massage functions, rear-seat entertainment, 20-inch wheels plus connection to Google Earth.

The king of the Audi saloons is powered by the new 6.3-liter twelve-cylinder engine which develops 500 horsepower. According to Audi, the A8 L W12 has a 14 mpg city and a 21 mpg highway fuel consumption.

The unit allows for a 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) acceleration in 4.9 seconds, and sends the A8L on its way to the electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

Despite the mind-bending power, this is also one of the most expensive Audis on offer in the US. The 2012 Audi R8 GT has a price of almost $200.000, or, to be more exactly, $198.050, which also includes a 1.250 $ destination charge, but that’s a limited production supercar, so it’s excusable.

The A8 L will become the top version of Audi's flagship A8 and is 130 millimeters (0.43 ft) longer than the standard-wheelbase version. It comes with an extensive array of engines: two V6 engines (TDI 250 hp, TFSI 290 hp), two 4.2l V8s (TDI 350 hp, FSI 372 hp) and the whooping W12 unit.
