Audi A8 MMI Wins Telematics Award

The MMI navigation system developed by Audi and fitted on the new A8 has been recognized by The Telematics Awards as the Best Embedded Telematics Navigation Product, mostly thanks the to industry-first integration of Google Earth into the system.

Audi's system allows 3G high-speed data connectivity and, according to Audi and Qualcomm, the company which designed it, enables previously unseen navigation capabilities. As said, It integrates Google Earth, as well as 3D satellite and aerial imagery and will allow route planning, points-of-interest and real-time traffic updates on a single platform.

In addition, the MMI system on the A8 uses a rooftop antenna, part of the UMTS module, to receive up-to-date information about the aforementioned route planning, points-of-interest and real-time traffic.

One of the first cars in the world to offer an optional factory-installed WLAN wireless Internet access, the A8 can turn into a mobile "hot spot," allowing passengers to connect their Wi-Fi devices to the Internet from inside the vehicle. All passengers, whether they are seated in the front or in the rear, can access the Internet simultaneously, as the system allows for up to eight terminal devices to be used at one time.

The A8 is priced in between $90,825 and $109,865 and comes packing four engines.
