The Audi A7 Sportback’s story started back in January 2008, when the German automotive producer introduced the concept car that previewed the model at the Detroit Auto Show. Fast-forwarding to October 29, we see Audi announcing that the A7 Sportback will reach showrooms across Europe starting from tomorrow.
The German company is introducing the vehicle with an engine range consisting of three powerplants, two gasoline engines and a diesel unit. The entry-level engine is is a 2.8 liter FSI V6 that delivers 204 hp, returning a fuel economy of 8.0 liters per 100 km (29,4 mpg).
This is followed by a 2.0 forced-induction TFSI engine that produces 300 hp, returns a fuel economy of 8.2 liters per 100 km and emits 190 grams of CO2 per km. The oil-burner is a 3.0 TDI unit, which produces 245 hp and emits 158 grams of CO2 per km.
The Audi A7 Sportback has a starting price of EUR51,650/$71,560 (German market), and will become available on multiple markets around the world next year. Audi estimates that the model will convince a total of around 200,000 customers.
“With the A7, we are delivering a real beauty and an entirely new concept that we feel the market has been waiting for. We expect roughly two-thirds of all buyers worldwide to be new customers, finding their way to Audi via the A7,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board for Sales and Marketing, AUDI AG. “It is the step-up model for the segment that includes the Audi A6, with which we are enjoying strong growth rates the world over.”
