The manner in which these two aim to offer coziness differs quite a lot and yet it appears that they offer precisely the same level of cabin quietness.
To be more precise, the Audi A7 and Bentley Continental GT are tied for the title of the third most quiet car in the world. At least that’s what Mercedes told motoring.com.au. By the way, do you want to try and guess who occupies the first two places in this top?
As the Germans have already bragged, the quietest vehicle in the world is the new S-Class Coupe, which is followed by its sedan sibling.
Mercedes held a silent party inside its Untertürkheim wind tunnel, relying on a special aeroacustics index. This factors in the actual cabin noise level, multiple psychoacoustic variables, such as the the conversation background noise intrusion, as well as multiple frequencies.
Returning to the VW Group affair, the conclusion shouldn’t be all that shocking. After all, both Bentley’s Continental GT and Audi’s A7 offer laminated glass. Mind you, while the dual pane windows are standard on the grand tourer, the A7 offers these as an option.
Still, it is a bit amusing how the two offer the exact same aural elegance to their occupants, given that the rest of the components they share bring bespoke results. The best example lies in the twin-turbo 4-liter V8 - each of the marques has multiple bespoke implementations for the powerplant, so you can see this as a bouquet of V8 versions.
