Audi commercials are usually not as funny as their Volkswagen counterparts. But once in a while they do cause a good and very intentional laugh, like the one where an old tower acts like Captain Ahab and says he's never hooked a "quattro".
This time, the "protagonist" is not a car tower, but a gas station attendant who is losing money and his temper since one of the local bought an Audi A6 ultra.
An extra layer of amusement is added by the awful voice-overs: typical American accent for somebody who's clearly from Germany and a young girl with a very deep, masculine voice. But hey, this ad probably wasn't designed with English in mind, since most ultra buyers are going to be Germans.
What's the A6 ultra? We're glad you asked. This is a new version of the A6 mid-size sedan (also available as an Avant) that's designed to burn very little fuel. The base model is a 2.0 TDI rated at 150 PS and claiming 4.2 l/100km combined (56.0 US mpg) corresponding to 109 grams CO2 per kilometer (175.4 g/mi). The other TDI makes 190 PS and uses the glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) springs to reduce unsprung weight.
Both come as standard with a new six-speed manual and there's also an automatic option. Instead of a CVT lineatronic like on 2013 A6 models, this now uses a 7-speed twin-clutch.
A6 ultra models are already available, with prices ranging from €39,000 for a 150 PS model with a manual to €43,350 for he 190 PS model with S-tronic. Avant models cost an average of €2,500 extra.
