The first thing you'll notice is the refreshed Matrix LED headlights, which now have the same general look as on the bigger A6 and feature a cascading pattern. The grille change is less obvious. However, this unit sits a bit lower and has been stretched out for a sporty look.

Around the rear, Audi has added new taillights and got rid of the visible exhaust pipes. In their place, you now get some decorative trim. It's also worth pointing out that the A4 allroad quattro has its own bumper designs and that the S line kit now has a honeycomb grille.

In base form, the A4 is still not a match for classier rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Volvo S60. At least that's what we think. Let us know if you like the facelift in the comments section.

The interior changes are easy to overlook since everything looks the same. However, the new MMI is a 10-inch display with touch and acoustic feedback, replacing the old rotary/pushbutton control on the center tunnel.

The system is also much smarter. For example, the navigation reads the traffic signs ahead and can adjust your speed accordingly. The 2020 Audi A4 can also be locked and unlocked or started using an Android smartphone. Sadly, Virtual Cockpit remains an expensive option available with MMI plus.

On the safety front, the optional systems are bundled into the "Tour", "City" and "Park" packages. An important system in the "Tour" package is the adaptive cruise control including Stop&Go function for automatic distance control, which can slow the car even when there's no car ahead by using Car-to-X messages, navigation data and traffic signs.

Arriving at the engines, we learn that the A4 range will be offered with six of them, three of which have a mild-hybrid system (MHEV) based on 12-volt architecture. This is said to reduce consumption by 0.3 l/100km and helped Audi undercut the Euro 6d-temp emission standard.

We don't have any technical details but believe most of those six engines are all 2-liter ones, save for the 3.0 TDI fitted to the S4 (with 347 HP). Their power should range from 150 HP for the 35 TFSI to 245 HP for the 45 TFSI.

The new Audi A4 models and the S4 models can be ordered in Europe from May 2019. The A4 allroad quattro will be available in the early summer and both models will be in the dealerships from fall 2019. In Germany, the base price for the A4 Sedan 35 TFSI with S tronic is €35,900 while the S4 TDI is offered at €62,600.
