Audi A3 Receives Discreet Facelift and New Gasoline Engine

Audi will premiere at the Leipzig Auto Show this month the facelift of the A3 model. The modifications apply to the entire range: the three-door variant, the Sportback, the Cabriolet and the S3. The facelift also marks the introduction of the new 1.2-liter TFSI engine, which produces 105 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque (175 Nm). This new unit replaces the old 102 horsepower 1.6 liter configuration. The fuel consumption is rated at 42.7 mpg (5,5 liters/100 km), aided by the start&stop system fitted as standard.

As with the TT, also to be presented at the Leipzig show, the aesthetic changes are small and concern both the exterior and the interior. The single frame grille has a glossy black finish, the same as the spoiler air inlets. The rearview mirrors have been redesigned, while the 3-door version also gets a new spoiler. There are also new colors available, and new rims for the Ambition trim. The interior has been customized with new aluminum surfaces and a new leather covered sport steering-wheel.

The rest of the gasoline engine line-up contains the 1.4 liter TFSI (125 horsepower), the 1.8 TFSI (160 hp), the 2.0 liter TFSI (200 hp) and the 265 horsepower 2.0 liter supercharged engine, reserved only for the S3. On the diesel side, there's the 1.6 liter TDI in two power options (90 and 105 hp), and the 2.0 liter TDI (140 and 170 hp). Audi will also offer an eco-friendly version, dubbed 1.6 TDIe, that will have an average consumption rating of 61.9 mpg (3.8 liters/100 km) and CO2 emissions of only 99 g/km.

The upgraded Audi A3 will arrive on European markets at the beginning of the summer.
