A new rendering posted online recently envisions an Audi A3 with a Lamborghini front fascia, something that is not entirely far-fetched given the improvements the German manufacturer announced for its 2020 model.
The digital artwork that was published on Instagram by automotive_photoshops is more of a front swap trying to envision how the new A3 would look like with a Lamborghini design.
And while at first glance this is something that just can’t happen given the different focus of Audi and Lamborghini, well, some wouldn’t necessarily believe a collaboration between the two is totally off the table.
And the most obvious sign that Audi and Lamborghini could at one point work together on building a joint model is none other than the 2020 A3.
Announced earlier this year during a digital event (the carmaker originally planned a public launch at the Geneva Motor Show, but the show got canceled due to the global health crisis), the A3 uses some design cues borrowed from Lamborghini, with Audi itself bragging about this approach during the unveiling.
The company says it used the shoulder line of the Lamborghini Countach, something which Audi believes makes the new A3 sportier and provides it with a more aggressive look overall. The Countach was manufactured between 1974 and 1990 and is one of the most successful models released by the Italian company. Only 1,983 units are believed to have been produced.
Then, the interior has also borrowed some ideas from Lamborghini. For example, the air vents use the same design as the ones that the Italian carmaker released on the Urus, the super-expensive model which Lamborghini claims it “merges the soul of a super sportscar with the functionality of an SUV.”
For what it’s worth, the 2020 Audi A3 is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, the one used by several other models belonging to the group’s brands, including the new SEAT Leon, Volkswagen Golf Mk 8, and the 2020 Skoda Octavia.
