Audi A3 e-tron Commercial: Perfect Club Mix

The idea of combining gasoline and rechargeable electricity into one package has been floating around Audi's headquarters for quite a while. With a little help from their sister brand VW, they finally did it and the A3 e-tron was born.

More than just a compact car with a petrol engine and a socket, the e-tron is a statement from its buyers, one that requires a serious financial commitment. And what better way to get people involved than with a commercial that puts the A3 in a good light and might stir a giggle in the process.

The latest commercial from Audi is called "Der perfekte Mix", or the perfect mix for the rest of us non German speakers. It compares the e-tron to the song a DJ plays at the club. It's a cheap shot, considering "elektro" is part of the model's powertrain. However, it's been done on a big budget using the same cinematic effects as the rest of the A3 models.

The e-tron is said to be the best of both words, combining the joy of driving a turbocharged petrol-powered car with an EV. In ideal conditions, a fully charged battery will last you 50 kilometers (31 miles), which makes CO2 emissions of only 35 g/km possible. Unlike the Toyota Prius PHEV, the e-tron is hip and places emphasis on being stylish. After all, how many times have you seen a Prius owner clubbing?

As you'd expect from a German car, there are multiple drive modes to choose from. There an EV setting where you only use electricity, a normal hybrid drive where the car decided what's best for economy, Hybrid Auto, where you hold the current battery charge and Hybrid Charge, which you use when you're approaching a city and want to go into EV mode.

The e-tron's power comes not from The Grid, but from a combination of 1.4 TFSI turbo and electric motor, channeling a maximum of 204 hp through an S tronic twin-clutch gearbox.

Let's party like it's the 1999 Liberty Parade!
