In the short time that the e-tron idea has been among us, the German car maker has presented more than a handful of electric variants of both concepts and existing models. Whereas 2010 was the year of the A1 e-tron, apparently Audi now decided to give the model that will revive the A2 line an EV version as well.
According to Autoexpress, Audi plans to bring the reinvented A2 as an e-tron at the Frankfurt Auto Show later in the year. The single novelty is all this is the venue Audi chose for the unveiling, as word about an e-tron A2 has been around for more than a year now. Unlike what some sources on the Internet are saying, it's unlikely though that the A2 will be an electric only model.
As for the next generation A2, the first in a long time (the model was discontinued in 2005 as a result of very poor sales, but the greed with which mother group Volkswagen is pursuing Toyota for the number one position calls for some risky moves), will be in the words of R&D chief Michael Dick “recognisable as an A2 but very different from the old car.” Meaning, not that ugly, for one.
““We will not make the same mistake as with the first A2 and do it all by ourselves,” Dick said back in 2009.
