They say rumors travel faster than the speed of light and of all people, automotive journalists should know that. Sometimes, designers like to follow such stories and work their imagination in coming up with virtual interpretations of a future car.
It was only last week when we wrote about Audi's intentions of launching an ultra-efficient city-car concept bound to be presented in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show. Allegedly, the new vehicle would rival the likes of Mini Cooper and Fiat 500 in an attempt to convince clients urban mobility matters and should be done the Audi way.

So, if case you were wondering how a potential replacement for the slow-selling Audi A2 would look like, X-Tomi Design has the answer. The two-door vehicle he imagined tries to make up for the lack of size with an overdose of aggressivity, as we are being told by the rendering's angry front end.

As far as we can tell, the styling cues have been borrowed from the Audi A1 (maybe with the Active Style Package on) but given a pixel retouch to suggest the car's increased dimensions. Moving your eyes towards the back of the car you'll be able to spot some similarities with Volkswagen' up! city cruiser in terms of simplicity and regular, boxy shapes.

The two-door config adopted with this render is not far fetched, as voices suggest a future urban mobility enforcer from Audi would be offered in both three-door and five-door egos.

The MQB platform would be the logical choice for the car's underpinning and we might see a hybrid powertrain taking passengers from A to B in the urban jungle, thanks to a maximum all-electric range of around 125 miles (200 km).
