Sometimes, engineers have crazy ideas, most of which never get put into production. But on rare occasions, they do, and what comes out is positively mind boggling.
Take the Audi A1 quattro, for example. The A1 is supposed to be a posh supermini for people who have money to spend on a glorified VW Polo. It's for getting about town, so a 1.2 TSI or a 1.6 TDI are the only engines you'll need. But what if you give the A1 some horse steroids?
The A1 quattro is equipped with a huge wing, silly weeks with center locks like on a racing car. But the ultimate trickery is that this is the only supermini equipped with all-wheel drive and a turbo 2-liter engine, which they pulled out of the old S3.
So as not to upset people who buy their bigger cars, Audi only gave the the A1 quattro 252 hp. That was before some other crazy engineers came and tuned it.
MTM tuned the A1 quattro with new exhaust and engine mapping, giving it a new output of 380 horsepower. As you can see from WillLillo's video taken in Monaco, it's an a crazy car that makes as much sense as a V8-powered lawn mower.
