Finally, the moment most British fans of the four-ring brand were waiting for: the Audi A1 compact hatchback got the green light for ordering in the UK today, with first deliveries expected in late 2010. Priced at between £13,145 OTR and £18,280 OTR, the smallest Audi in the carmaker’s lineup will be available in SE, Sport and S line options.
Features found on all three trim levels include alloy wheels, remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors and a six-speaker single CD audio system with auxiliary iPod connection linked to a 6.5-inch retractable display.
Sport models add larger diameter wheels, sports suspension, sports seats, Bluetooth mobile phone preparation and a Driver’s Information System, while S line versions upgrade with extras such as an exclusive S line exterior treatment including larger 17-inch alloy wheels, S line sports suspension and leather and cloth combination upholstery.
The specification levels will be available in conjunction with three TDI and TFSI engines. The new 1.2 TFSI petrol engine mated exclusively to a five-speed manual transmission is the entry level model in the range. The powerplant develops 86PS and maximum 160 Nm of torque that enable a 0-62mph time of 11.7 seconds and a 112 mph top speed.
The next power unit in the range is the 1.4 TFSI petrol, which is capable of developing 122PS and maximum 200 Nm of torque, taking the A1 to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds, and on to 126 mph. This variant is offered with Sport and S line options with optional S tronic transmission. Finally, the 1.6 TDI diesel engine outputs 105PS and maximum 250 Nm of torque, powering the A1 to 62 mph in 10.5 seconds and on to a 118 mph top speed.
