Audi A1 in 3D Available Via MagicSymbol Software

German carmaker Audi announced today that potential customers are invited to take a look at 3D virtual versions of the smallest model in the brand's lineup. This will be made possible thanks to the ‘Augmented Reality’ web-based recognition technology, which enables customers to interact with a 3D ‘photo-real’ version of the A1 compact hatchback.

The MagicSymbol software, developed by interactive 3D content specialist Inition, is available via touch screen installations positioned in every Audi Centre all over the world.

The campaign is supported by an online version which enables users to download the application at home, print out the ‘MagicSymbol’ and use a webcam to interact with the A1. Users can virtually explore every side of the car by simply moving the magic symbol pad connected to the web cam.

“The technology will enable customers to get a real ‘feel’ for the A1, which has been designed to deliver all that the Vorsprung durch Technik brand stands for in a concentrated form. The more compact and city-friendly three-door premium hatchback benefits from the same world renowned quality standards, sophisticated design details and leading edge technological advances found throughout the Audi range,” a company statement reads.

Production of the model began last month at the Brussels plant, with Audi targeting a production run of 50,000 units by the end of 2010. Next year, 80,000 units will hit the streets, reaching the 100,000 units/year mark in 2011.

The Audi A1 will packs four engines (two gasoline and two diesel), all direct fuel injected and turbocharged, at a starting price of 15,800 euros.
