Automakers sometimes chose not to offer low-volume cars in Britain because of the costs of developing right-hand-drive. However, Audi has announced that its new rugged hatchback, the A1 Citycarver, will go on sale there from September.
Also, their press release reveals what engines will be available, while the ones for the rest of Europe haven't been detailed. More specifically, it will have the 30 TFSI system, which is a 116 HP 1-liter turbo or the 35 TFSI, a 1.5-liter making 150 HP. The normal A1 also offers a less powerful base unit and a 200 HP setup borrowed from the Polo GTI.
Although it's supposed to be embued with the ruggedness of the Q-series SUVs, the Citycarver is more like a city-slicker. You should treat this more as a higher-grade model, since it can't be ordered with the AWD of an A4 allroad, for example.
Dealing with speed bumps and potholes may be a little easier, thanks to a 40mm increase in ride height. However, with the model boasting either 17- or 18-inch wheels, it's clear that comfort wasn't Audi's only priority.
A body kit has also been developed for the Citycarver. It consists of gloss black fender flares and a new look for the fake vents on the front and rear bumpers. Also, the big grille features a fresh honeycomb pattern, while the metallic front and rear skid plates add a touch of class.
The color range for the slick A1 includes nine exterior options, which can be optionally combined, depending on the color chosen, with a contrast roof in either Mythos black metallic or Manhattan grey metallic.
Inside, you will get the 10-inch digital dash as standard. However, the Technology Pack will still be needed to unlock all the functions and add maps. You may also be interested in the Parking System Plus and the Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system with 560 watts of music power.
