Audi A1 Allroad in the Works?

Now that the hot S1 model has been confirmed, the brand with the four rings can move on to the next iteration of the A1 range. If we are to trust the so many rumors out there, an Allroad configuration is to follow in the next years, although Audi has never talked about such a project

A story published by leftlanenews.com suggests that a potential Allroad version of the A1 lineup could see daylight sometime in 2013 and it's not yet clear whether it would be launched on the same markets as the standard A1 or Audi will go even further and try to explore other regions as well.

As expected, the A1 Allroad will benefit from a few changes, including a higher ride height for increased performance on uneven roads. Obviously, all-wheel drive will be offered across the range, but we don't know for sure whether it will be standard or just available on top versions.

The hardcore version of the A1 was confirmed indirectly by company chief Rupert Stadler who last week said in an interview with Autocar that an S1 is indeed possible. “Sportiness is a core value for the Audi brand and we have some clear ideas [for the A1] in this direction,” he stated, hinting that the S1 project is now under consideration.

Details are still in the early stage, but the S1 is likely to use a turbocharged 1.4l engine, developing around 180 hp and mated to Audi's seven speed dual-clutch S-tronic gearbox. Not sure yet, but the car is likely to be unveiled in 2012.
