Atomik 500, Buzzing with 300 HP

While the world is still waiting for the factory-built electric version of the 500, a new company called Atomik Cars thought to take the lead and show the Italians how the electric 500 should look like.

And this is what they came up with: a mean-looking, overpowered, all electric Abarth 500, called Atomik 500. Set to make its public de but next month at the Top Marques Monaco show, the Atomik will only get a limited-run production version, with 50 units to be built and sold.

Underneath what is perhaps one of the best looking bodies ever designed for a 500, the Atomik hides AC brushless synchronous electric motors developing a combined output of about 300 hp. They allow the car to reach the 60 mph mark in some 5.6 seconds.

The rest of the limited details available point to the Atomik using features like lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, a ceramic heating system and a “Peltier A/C module w/o gas” air conditioning system.

The Atomik is the second non-factory electric 500, after last year AutoAdapt presented the Fiat 500 EV Adapt. Fiat itself had its say at this year's North American International Auto Show, where it presented the Fiat 500 BEV.

Fiat said at the time the 500 BEV is just a concept car and there are no plans to make it available for the public. Apparently, it was only created as a testbed; one which would offer information about the electric powertrain’s behavior in a small vehicle. Meaning the 500 electric conversion will be left other companies, at least for now.
