Never trust a British journalist's story after he interviewed someone from a German carmaker - as Auto Express is trying so hard but to no avail to offer a scoop based on a few quotes by none other than Daimler's Dr. Z.
As you all know, Aston Martin Ltd and Mercedes-AMG GmbH have signed a technical partnership for the Germans to supply the Brits with engines and different electronic components in exchange for a 5% equity stake in Aston Martin.
“Aston’s new investor was convinced that it would be helpful to associate with someone with experience in fast car technology,” Zetsche told Auto Express. “When you make decisions like this it usually takes three to four years to see the results.”
We don't know about Auto Express, but to us three to four years is about the time for a carmaker to develop an entirely new car, not squeeze in a couple of engines in an already existing model.
Which brings us to our speculation from a few weeks ago. We were far from being 100% sure on the matter then, but we are most definitely more than 50% sure now. The whole future Aston Martin lineup will be based on the Mercedes C190 (baby SLS) platform.
