In February, Aston Martin teamed up with Girard-Perregaux as its official watch partner, and four months later, they launched their first timepiece. Aptly named the "Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition," it is limited to just 18 units and costs a small fortune.
The watchmaker has listed it on its official website for $146,000, excluding tax. Coincidentally (or is it?), that’s also the official starting price of the 2021 Vantage in the U.S. of A. And we pretty much know which of the two we’d get if we had that kind of money to blow on a new set of wheels such a thing.

Celebrating the Three Bridges pocket watch from the 19th century, the new timepiece has a black calf leather that evokes Aston Martin’s classic racecars, with "rubber alloy," described as “an innovative rubber insert injected with white gold.” It has a 44 mm (1.7 in) case made of titanium with black diamond-like carbon, and sapphire crystal box.

Measuring 10 mm (0.4 in) in diameter, the "lyre-shaped" cage, a characteristic that dates back to the company’s 19th-century tourbillons, features 79 components that weigh 0.25 grams, helping mitigate the energy consumption.

Energizing the main spring, the white gold micro-rotor is positioned beneath the barrel so that it does not obstruct the views of the movement. Adorning the vertical flank of the micro-rotor is the automaker’s logo that glows blue in dim light, together with the indexes and hands.

The wristwatch has an airy appearance, and its movement appears to levitate within the case. That was achieved by paring the back movement and causing the main plate to disappear seemingly, and it is where the term "flying bridges" comes from.

So, if you had a six-digit sum lying around, what car would you get? Porsche’s 911 GT3, for instance, sounds mighty appealing, and it costs "only" $15,000 more than Aston’s new watch.
