Aston Martin Will Build a Crossover, Use Mercedes-AMG Engines

Aston Martin has big plans for the future, and CEO Andy Palmer just revealed some of them in an interview. So, what should we expect from James Bond's ride provider?

According to Automotive News Europe, the Aston Martin boss had a funny and relaxed comment about his company's past and future. In a nutshell, the former Nissan CPO puts it elegantly like this:

"In the first century we went bankrupt seven times. The second century is about making sure that is not the case.”

Leaving jokes aside, it looks like the British carmaker wants to make an enthusiastic comeback in terms of revenue. And since history repeats, guess what recipe will they go for? That's right, Aston Martin is going to build a crossover since the market has a thing for these automotive inbetweeners these days.

But there's more to the potential soap opera. Aston Martin will use a new platform to build their first small SUV, but it will be shared with a new sedan and a third mysterious model. Rumor has it that we'll know more about Aston's new architecture next year, but one thing's sure: the company wants its revenues to rise, and they want it fast.

In order for that to happen, Aston Martin will use the ace up their sleeve: a deal with Daimler that allows the Brits to use Mercedes-Benz's infotainment and active safety systems.

Last but not least, the Gaydon-based manufacturer will receive engines from the Mercedes-AMG division, and yes, we're talking about the already notorious 4.0-liter turbocharged V8. However, Ford will continue to deliver V12 engines from its Cologne plant, but there's another issue bothering us: is there a crossover invasion we should worry about?
