New from the ground up for 2019, the V8 Vantage is also obliged to go endurance racing. Vantage GT4 is the name of the no-nonsense racing car, and Aston Martin will field no fewer than four examples of the breed at the 2019 ADAC TOTAL 24 Hours.
Also known as the Nurburgring 24h, the race will start on Saturday, June 22nd. Two Vantage GT4 models will be fielded by the works team in the SP8T class and two more will be run by PROsport Performance in the SP10 class. Chris Harris from Top Gear was due to participate but had to withdraw due to filming commitments for the British Broadcasting Corporation.
An Aston Martin Festival parade lap is also confirmed for the build-up to the race, featuring an assortment of road-going cars such as the DBS Superleggera Volante. “With more than 60 Vantage GT3 and GT4 cars now in active service and competition around the world, there is no place on Earth more appropriate than the Nürburgring for the GT4 to make its international 24-hour debut,” said David King, president of Aston Martin Racing.
The cars to watch are #36, #37, #68, and #76, featuring drivers such as three-time Le Mans class winner Darren Turner, test driver Chris Goodwin, W-Series championship leader Jamie Chadwick, and ELMS champion Alex Brundle. “I love racing in the N24. It’s the toughest circuit on the planet and one of the most challenging events of the year, no matter what class you are racing in,” said Darren Turner about the challenge ahead of him.
Like the GT3, the GT4 features a modified twin-turbo V8 based on the Mercedes-AMG engine in the road-going car. In regard to exterior design, both models take inspiration from the Vantage GTE, which was developed in tandem with the production model.
Aston Martin homologated the next generation of GT3 and GT4 racing cars on March 1st, but the orders books opened last year in May when the two were teased at the premiere of the Vantage GTE at Spa-Francorchamps.
