Aston Martin decided to tease the Valhalla on the track alongside the Valkyrie, but instead of turbo and engine sounds, the following clip is full of pompous music that nobody seems to care about. We don’t either because we prefer to hear the V6 under acceleration and the dual-clutch transmission swapping a cog.
Aside from the questionable editing, the video does reveal the proportions of the Valhalla and how the mid-engine supercar corners as flat as possible. “The Nordic hall of the heroes is officially open for business” as per Aston Martin, but Odin isn’t pleased because the Valhalla will be launched in 2021.
That’s the 2022 model year if you were wondering, and even though the wait will be excruciating, the British automaker from Gaydon promises “class-leading dynamics on both road and track.” Ferrari and Lamborghini won’t be staying still until then, though. On the upside, Aston Martin has the know-how of Red Bull Racing for both the Valhalla as well as the Valkyrie.
Also known as Project 003, the V6-engined member of the V family will be limited to 500 examples of the breed. To star in the next installment of the 007 franchise with a total output of around 1,000 horsepower, the hybridized supercar is capable of 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds. Thanks to a weight of 1,350 kgs (2,976 lbs), the Valhalla’s power-to-weight ratio is 750 ponies per tonne.
There’s no denying Project 003 has a lot going for it, but with each teaser and appearance at a motor show, the Valhalla will lose its appeal considering the first series-production model will be ready in two years’ time. The same can be said about the Valkyrie and the Mercedes-AMG ONE for that matter.
On a perfectly subjective note, the SF90 Stradale is the supercar of the moment. Ferrari managed to squeeze out 1,000 PS (986 horsepower) from three electric motors and a 4.0-liter V8, eclipsing the LaFerrari in every respect with the notable exception of the top speed.
