Aston Martin Teases DP-100, another Vision Gran Turismo Concept for Goodwood [Updated]

Aston Martin has just announced it will unveil a new virtual concept car inspired by the Gran Turismo 6 computer game at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this Friday. Their surprise statement is accompanied by two somewhat blurry video screenshots and a name: DP-100, short for Design Prototype 100.

Given that Aston is working on a new range of sportscars, the 'prototype' part could be interpreted as a hint of things to come. A design team under the guidance of Marek Reichman has been allowed to cut loose and make something amazing for the digital paddock and what they appear to have come up with is mid-engined supercar. Looking though the glass cover to the engine bay, we're tempted to say it's even turbocharged, though this is of little importance for a "virtual-only GT racer".

Rumors of a next-gen DB9 powered by Mercedes-Benz's new 4-liter twin-turbo V8 might have a little something to do with out speculation. However, while the heart of the company might become a little German, its designs remain British. The DP-100 has a hint of Aston Martin's Le Mans prototypes and a dash of One-77, another firm favorite with the Gran Turismo crowd.

Automakers the world over have recently turned their attention to a new environment in which to express their creativity. Rather than taking their concepts to motor shows, many have discovered the racing simulator Gran Turismo 6 brings together millions of car fans. Hours before Aston Martin, Nissan also revealed that a full-scale mockup of its Gran Turismo 6 concept called the Vision 2020 is also coming to Goodwood. Both with be joined by Volkswagen's hot hatch inspired Vision GTI unveiled at the famous Worthersee meeting in Austria last month.

Update: Aston and Polyphony Digital have both published this teaser video taking us though the engine bay. It looks like the DP-100 has all sort of aerodynamic elements, including some floating C-pillar elements à la Ferrari 599.
