Aston Martin Still Considering Lagonda SUV

Rumored for more than a year now, Aston Martin’s Lagonda concept-based SUV is still considered for production, company chairman and CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez revealed today.

Speaking to Autocar, Bez said the Lagonda SUV could be developed with help from Mercedes-Benz AMG as part of the recent agreement signed by the British automaker and the Stuttgart’s performance arm.

“If you look at how Porsche and Volkswagen worked together to produce two completely different cars, it would be possible to have a similar arrangement with Mercedes so long as our car was clearly and distinctly an Aston Martin,” said Bez, adding that the vehicle would be destined for the booming Chinese market.

While Bez declined talking about a possible timeframe for the Lagonda, Autocar says the SUV could be based on the next-generation M-Class which should arrive sometime in 2017.
