Aston Martin Says No to Hybrids, Sticks to V12 Engines

Although Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche have already started a new trend with hybrid supercars, a number of sportscar manufacturers are not willing to join the scene, including Aston Martin, who says “hybridization is irrelevant on the road”.

Speaking to Drive, company CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez said Aston Martin would rather improve fuel efficiency by developing lighter and more aerodynamic cars than introduce a hybrid powertrain.

"Hybridization has two aspects, like in F1 to pass someone, which is irrelevant on the road, and the other is to be more fuel efficient. But it is very simple; if you drive a little slower you will be much better off,” Bez commented, adding that their V12 engines will still be around for at least five years, even though displacement may drop below five liters.

“If it comes to a luxury car with emotion, a V12 has something special. This will still be there within the next five to 10 years, but it does not mean it will be six liters - it can be five liters or a smaller one. It will improve with power and fuel consumption,” he added.
