The electric vehicle will be based on the Rapide AMR from which Aston and Williams will be stripping the V12 engine and mount the battery pack. Aston chose for the Rapide E a 65kWh battery that powers two rear-mounted electric motors with a combined output of 610 PS and a 950 Nm of torque.

The range of the car is expected to be somewhere in the vicinity of 200 miles (321 km), measured under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Charging of the Rapide E can be done via a 400V system that allows 185 miles of range to be pumped into the battery every hour. Because the car is capable of supporting 800V charging, a full tank, sort of speak, will be ready in just an hour using such an output.

On the go, the car will be capable of reaching a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), while the zero to sixty acceleration time is expected to be under four seconds.

Aston Martin did not say how much the car weighs, but did mention that it used lightweight alloys and carbon composite materials to keep the weight within strict targets. Aerodynamics has been improved as compared to the AMR, including with the addition of Pirelli P Zero wheels.

The Rapide E will be used by Aston Martin as a test bed for the creation of the Lagonda electric car brand. Because of this, only a limited number of the model, 155 units, will be built.

“As our first all-electric production model, Rapide E will fast-track our knowledge and help us ensure the character and high-performance capabilities of our future EV models and enhance the unique qualities found in all Aston Martins as we know them today,” said in a statement the company’s CEO Andy Palmer.

“Rapide E will also serve as a critical step on our path to re-launching Lagonda as the world’s first zero-emission luxury marque”.

Pricing for the model will be available on application, says the company, and deliveries are expected to begin in late 2019.
