Word has it British automaker Aston Martin is planning to develop a lighter and more powerful version of the V12 Vantage S based on the Vantage GT3 race car.
According to engineering chief Ian Minards, Aston Martin could remove 100 kg (220 lbs) from the current car, while a power update could increase the V12’s output from 565 BHP to 600 BHP, Autocar reports.
“It would be relatively easy to lose 100 kg from the current car. That much could be saved by removing the air conditioning, simplifying the interior and fitting lightweight seats,” Minards said.
While the project has yet to be confirmed, Autocar claims the road legal V12 Vantage GT3 could be launched before 2015. However, for that to happen, the company would need to green light the vehicle within the next six months.
