The Geneva Motor Show floor really kicked it up a notch this year, bringing tens of world debuts to the table. The truth of the matter is, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen so many world debuts in one place and it’s hard to take your pick, choosing which one is the most important.
Aston Martin decided to bring out its DBX Concept in Switzerland too and we have to admit that they made the right move. Their reinterpretation of the luxury GT segment is just what the market needed right now, in a moment when niches are hard to distinguish.

The design managed to keep in touch with the company’s roots and DNA while moving forward at the same time. Created under the direction of Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, the all-wheel drive concept combines both function and form.

You’ll notice the extremely high ground clearance and the huge wheels at first, only to be charmed by the materials used throughout the construction moments later. For example, on the outside, billet machined aluminum is noticeable while the unique paint finish (called Black Pearl Chromium) is breathtaking on its own.

It’s all put into perspective when you step inside

As good as the body looks like, it’s nothing compared to what awaits within. The all too often used carbon fiber is left behind to make room for Nubuck leather that basically covers everything up, in various colors.

Even the steering wheel seems out of this world, featuring a display right in its middle for some unknown reason. Of course, that couldn’t ever make it into production as it would have to fit an airbag in there and deploying it would probably render the driver blind.

It’s all electric

Keeping in touch with the latest trends of the industry, the DBX Concept is all electric, its powertrain being dubbed as ‘experimental engineering’ by the company itself.

The power is stored and sent to the electric, inboard-of-wheel motors thanks to new lithium sulphur battery cells. The car also has drive-by-wire electrical steering, toughened glass with an auto-dimming inter-layer and both the driver and passenger benefit from HUD technology.

On the outside, the engineers fitted the DBX Concept with active LED lights, KERS, carbon ceramic brakes and rearview cameras that replace the traditional mirrors.
