Aston Martin Needs 4,500 Hours of Work to Build One DB4 GT Zagato Continuation

In all, there will be only 19 DB4 GT Zagato Continuation sports cars hand-built by Aston Martin for a very select bunch of customers. And with some 4,500 hours of work going into each of them, it would take one person nearly ten years of work to complete them all.

Luckily, Aston is building more than one at once, so we won’t have to wait a decade before all is said and done.

The idea of once again reviving the DB4 GT Zagato popped into the heads of Aston executives last year. The new car is supposed to be a “completely authentic“ nod to the original DB4 GTs made in the 1960s and at the same time the “brand’s most valuable new car to date.”

And that’s because it will sell in pair with a DBS GT Zagato, based on the DBS Superleggera, for a total of £6 million plus local taxes, or the equivalent of around $8 million.

Production of Continuation series is now in full swing at the carmaker’s facility in Newport Pagnell, with ten of the 19 cars being on the floor of the facility in various stages of assembly.

This is not the first time Aston has been building a limited series of the DB4 model. In 2017 the carmaker released a limited 25 units run called DB4 GT Continuation that was quickly sold “to enthusiast collectors.”

“I’m thrilled to see this ambitious Continuation project bear fruit in such an exceptional way. It took courage, vision and incredible dedication for all those involved to take this idea and make it the stunning reality it is today,” said in a statement Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO.

“The DB4 GT Zagato is one of the true jewels of Aston Martin’s proud heritage and, paired with the new beauty that is the stunning DBS GT Zagato, the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation cars are a unique and fitting celebration of the brand’s 60-year love affair with this unmatched Italian automotive style icon.”

Aston says deliveries of the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation should begin in the last quarter of this year.
