Aston Martin DB11 Drifting on Ice Is How Gentlemen Let It Slide

Sting may have told us that "a gentleman will walk but never run" and yet, when it comes to drifting, the gentleman status is only reinforced by one's drifting skill.

Sure, sliding may not seem that elegant, especially with the tons of smoke and the violent transitions that come with the process, but when this happens on snow and ice, it all turns into a soothing form of art.

So, what does that have to do with the Aston Martin DB11 we're here to show you? Well, the Brit obviously belongs to the Grand Tourer breed and, unlike supercars, GTs can't refuse requests coming from their owners.

With the drifting trend currently gaining more and more traction, Gaydon engineers wanted to ensure the DB11 can deliver hefty slip angles, should the owner wish to engage in such activities.

Aston Martin has now released a video of the adventure, showing how the DB11 went all sideways on ice earlier this year - the official explanation has to do with "cold environment testing", but while Aston may tell you it was actually calibrating systems such as the ABS and the ESC, the scenes below are pure drifting.

And when it comes to getting the tail out in, the kind of non-linear power delivery of turbocharged engines can ruin the balance. Fortunately, though, the DB11's new 5.2-liter V12, which replaces the 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 of its predecessor, doesn't come with such issues.

In fact, the all-new powerplant under the long hood of the DB11 also keeps its pair of turbos from affecting its glorious soundtrack, as you'll be able to notice in the clip below.

And with an output of 600 hp (that's 608 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm), this Aston will easily serve as a drifting weapon, not just when things get slippery, but in any kind of driving conditions.
