Aston Martin DB10 Volante Rendering: Unimpressive!

Traditional British sportscar makers have always feared progress and change. Like Alfa Romeo, they lacked the serious financial resources to fight on par with their richer German rivals. But they shouldn't fear the future. Just look at Aston Martin, who have just opened a new chapter in their history books.

This is the DB10, recently put together for the 24th movie of the James Bond franchise, called SPECTRE. For now, they're only going to build 10 of these for the movie. But make no mistake, it's going to enter production within a couple of years or so.

And when that happens and this model replaces the aging DB9, a Volante or Roadster will also needed to provide James Bond with that open-air feeling. When that happens, the DB10 Volante should look a little bit like this rendering, created by X-Tomi Design for the purpose of visual enjoyment.

Word on the street is that the engine sound we've come to expect from Aston vee engines will be replaced by a twin-turbo from Mercedes-Benz, most likely the 4-liter used by the new C63 and AMG GT.

Swapping engines with German cars is nothing new for the Brits. The most notable example of this is the Bentley Continental GT, which has two flavors of 4.0 TFSI, borrowed from Audi's RS6 and RS7. Well, technically, Bentley and Audi co-developed the engine, but you get the point.

Let's get back to the DB10 and the subject of its looks. The Internet is buzzing with talk that this coupe looks bad, that it has a Lotus front end and an F-Type bottom. Of course, most of the people who are saying these things can't actually afford to buy an Aston Martin, so it might be a question of sour grapes. The V12 Vanquish received a similar barrage of criticism before people finally warmed up to its looks.

But even though we grew to love the Aston, demand was never in the same ballpark as the Lamborghini Huracan. And that kind of sums up what Aston Martin needs to do: give you that "oh my god, I need to sell my house" feeling that you get with a Lambo.
