For nearly as long as the automobile has been around, the Italians have been masters of automotive design. There is not a single country in the world that spawned as many coach builders over the ages, many of whom are still around today.
One of the oldest such coach builders, Aston Martin’s favorite Zagato, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next year. And what better way to celebrate than to bring back to life one of their most iconic creations?

In an official statement released on Wednesday, Aston Martin confirmed that it will be producing a limited series of the DB4 GT Zagato, called Continuation. With it will come a brand new Zagato tweaked Aston, the DBS GT.  Each of the two is meant to appeal to both needs of modern-day car lovers: the DB4 for track use, the DBS for road trips.

The revived DB4 GT Zagato “will be completely authentic and meticulously crafted [...] true to those original Zagato-bodied DB4 GTs produced by Aston Martin and Zagato in 1960.”

That means thin-gauge aluminum body panels clothing a lightweight tubular frame, a straight-six cylinder engine with 380 bhp under the hood and a four-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

The DBS GT Zagato, on the other hand, has no model to draw its heritage from so it would be setting up a new breed on its own. This road-legal version will be based on the DBS Superleggera and will “be characterized by a new proportion featuring a fresh interpretation of the iconic double-bubble roof.”

Extensive changes to the car’s body will be made to the front grille, while the tail will be "dramatically truncated."

The original DB4 GT Zagato was produced in only 19 units, so to mirror that Aston Martin will build an equal number of Continuations. The DBS GT Zagato will see an equal production run, as the plan is to sell the two cars only in pairs named the Zagato Collection.

Each pair is priced at £6 million plus local taxes. That’s the equivalent of $8 million at today’s exchange rates. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2019 for the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation and late 2020 for the DBS GT Zagato.
