Aston Martin Confirms Le Mans Series Entry

Following a mist of uncertainty over the participation of the Aston Martin LMP1 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and March's Sebring 12 Hours, the British carmaker confirmed its entry for both events.

In addition to the entry in the two races, Aston Martin confirmed Mexican driver Adrian Fernandez as one of the drivers for American Le Mans Series, while Stefan Mucke, Darren Turner, Harold Primat and Chris Buncombe will remain with the factory team. According to Autosport, a sixth driver is to be announced in the following weeks.

"We are looking forward to a great season of racing and we hope to have another strong showing at Le Mans," team boss George Howard-Chappell was quoted as saying by the source.

"I'd like to welcome Adrian to the team, I'm sure with his experience he will be a great addition to our driver line-up."

Back in December, the British carmaker was said to sit this year's Le Mans Series out, as the winner of the 2009 Le Mans Series were reportedly going to focus more on developing their car for 2011.

David Richards and his team announced ever since September that Aston Martin will try and focus more on creating the first prototype since 1989. A prototype also required by the changed engine rules for the 2011 Le Mans Series.

In addition to the now confirmed Le Mans series participation, Aston Martin will also support two teams in the 2010 GT1 World Championship and one in the 2010 FIA GT2.
