Aspar to Demand Answers from Aprilia for Moto2 Quit

The Piaggio Group might have announced their immediate quit from the Moto2 championship a couple of days ago, but their explanation was not even close to satisfying 125cc, 250cc and now MotoGP team boss Jorge Martinez 'Aspar'. The Spaniard was looking forward to creating a new domination inside the Moto2 series, but was struck by the Italian company's announcement that they want out of the series.

When arguing their decision, Piaggio – who currently controls FIM bike suppliers like Aprilia, Gilera and Derbi, although the last one was not listed as a Moto2 supplier – said that the engine rules were clearly created by the FIM to affect Aprilia's image in the new series. All machineries will have to be powered by 600cc engines, which will likely affect the Aprilia-powered teams next year.

However, as reported by crash.net, Aspar is now looking for a more efficient explanation from Aprilia, especially since the engine rules for the newly-created championship were announced a long time ago. In addition, Aspar Team already signed two title-contending riders for next season – Mike di Meglio and Julian Simon – as well as a bunch of sponsors.

We believed the project was developing well and wanted to work with Aprilia because of their great experience in world championship racing. Next Tuesday, Gino (Borsoi, sporting director) and I will travel to Italy to meet with the management of Aprilia and see if we can find a solution. If there isn't one, we'll look at other options,” said Aspar, according to crash.net.

Moto2 will replace the former 250cc class in the FIM Road-Racing World Championship starting 2010, aiming to become a series in which low-budget teams would feel the taste of running a motorcycle team in the FIM (before stepping into the MotoGP). Therefore, while being a feeder series for the MotoGP series, it will also provide the new teams with the chance to get used to the atmosphere of motorcycle racing.
