Asia GP2 Season to Start in Abu Dhabi

The second largest city in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, has just recently inaugurated its Yas Marina circuit. In an effort to make its mark more recognised in the world's top racing series, Abu Dhabi built what is regarded as one of the most modern international race tracks.

The Yas Marina will host this year's Formula One finale, with the last race of the season taking place there on November 1. But before that, the first motorsport series to race on the newly opened circuit will be the GP2 Asia series.

This new series plans on racing in the winter and since it hasn't released its official racing calendar yet, it is speculated that all the races will take place in countries from the Middle East in order to reduce traveling costs to other Asian countries like China and Malaysia.

Bruno Senna, last year's runner up in the GP2 series was present at the grand opening event of the Yas Marina venue and shared with the media his thoughts on the new circuit.

"It seems that the state of the art facilities, together with a demanding track layout, will be a new and tough challenge," declared Senna acording to Autosport.

"I would say the layout is quite selective. It is not exactly the same as Bahrain, where you can find at least four overtaking points, but you can earn position in one place or another. The 1.2km straight will ease that, for sure. Some corners are crazy as the cars will pass very close to the wall, like in the IndyCar series. This mix of characteristics is cool," continued the Brazillian.
