Armored Audi A8 for Binyamin Netanyahu

The Israeli government is about to purchase the most expensive car ever to be brought into the country, after it ordered an armored A8 model that is expected to cost $685,000. The car, an A8 Security, is expected to cost much more though because of the taxes.

The A8 Security version of the car has been launched by Audi sometime in 2007 and is based on the A8 L W12 quattro. It comes equipped with an armored passenger cell made from steel, glass and aramide fabric, which is invisible to the naked eye.

"The vehicle intended for the prime minister has a high level of protection, as specified by the security forces, and was therefore chosen in a tender for vehicles capable of carrying the required protection level,” the Prime Minister's Office told globes.co.il. “The prime minister had no part in the decision making process on the type of vehicle. The matter was dealt with solely by professional staff."

The W12 petrol engine which powers the vehicle develops 450 hp, allowing the heavier-than usual car to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in an unspecified time of  “a few seconds.” In case of an emergency, the user can rely on the various communications devices on board, including fax and telephone.

The comfort is insured by unique extras like a cooler box, a bar, a humidor and a DVD player. Optionally, it can be fitted with rotating beacon on the roof and the flashing LED lights in the wing mirrors or a PAX run-flat system, which allows the car to run on a flat tire.
