We are well aware of how awesome Team Galag is, but even we didn't expect them to have another Batmobile ready for this year's edition of the Gumball 3000 rally after they did the last one with a Tumbler. However, they just turned up at the start line in Dublin with the crime-fighting vehicle from Batman: Arkham Knight, the most recent video game from Rocksteady Studios.
For a second there, we thought it was the car from Dawn of Justice, which means our geek database needs an update.
The car was put together in record time by a Swedish company called Caresto. You may know them as the builders behind Jon Olsson's DTM-inspired Audi RS6. Regardless, the customizers didn't start with a blank sheet of paper, but instead chose a Lamborghini Gallardo 5.2-liter V10 engine with 560 horsepower to move the car. Sorry, it's not a rocket!
The body is made from tubular steel and pushes the wheels right to the edges of the car, just like the game car. Caresto was founded by a man called Leif Tufvesson, who just happens to have worked for Koenigsegg's design department. So you can bet there's a lot of carbon fiber involved in the build.
Recently, Caresto released a short press statement about its custom vehicle saying the following: "The design is based on the car from the Arkham knight game but has been redesigned and manufactured with drivability and full functionality in mind. The car is BIG. The wheel base is 3.40 meters and the width of this unique car is 2,5 meters. The special high rigid tubular frame is manufactured to provide good handling and give a solid feeling."
With cameras instead of mirrors and 26-inch wheels, it's safe to say that the Batmobile is once again the coolest car at the Gumball 3000 rally.
