State House representative Paul Mosley was caught speeding in March, but video of when he was pulled over was only leaked to the media this summer. He was cited and charged afterwards for excessive speeding.
Though footage shot by the officer’s bodycam shows Mosley bragging about how fast he was going, he just pleaded not guilty on the charge of excessive speeding, AZ Central reports. You can see the video at the bottom of the page.
Bear with us: in March, Mosley, a rep for Arizona’s 5th District, was pulled over by a cop because he was weaving in and out of traffic at excessive speeds. He bragged to the cop that he was doing between 120 and 140mph, laughing that he was driving a Lexus LS 400, so he wanted to make the most of it.
He also said that he knew he was breaking the law, but he wanted to get home to surprise the wife. Mosley also claimed he had “diplomatic immunity” to warn the officer from writing him a ticket right there. As it turns out, diplomatic immunity doesn’t apply to speeding or other traffic offenses, but the cop believed him anyway.
Mosley went until August this year without hearing back from the cops on that time he was pulled over. Then, the video below was leaked to the press and he was cited for excessive speeding in retrospect. Earlier this month, he was due in court to answer the charge but he failed to show up.
Mosley says he wasn’t served papers for the court appearance, so he didn’t know. When word got out that an arrest warrant had been issued in his name, he rushed to court and entered a not guilty plea to the charge of excessive speeding.
He is due in court next on October 18 and faces up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine if he’s found guilty. His record shows he was pulled over at least 7 other times during his time in the office.
Still, he maintains innocence. Hilariously, when the video leaked, Mosley issued a public apology in which he admitted to speeding and apologized for using his position to prevent the officer from doing his job.
