Ariel Atom Meets Polaris Snowmobile in Drag Race on Ice Strip

Winter might be gone now but true petrolheads don't care about seasons and make the best out of what they got. So why not put together a drag race on ice, with two unusual contestants?

If you understand what Ariel Atom stands for, you're one of those aficionados who know what kind of thrills you can get from a lightweight, blistering fast vehicle with scalpel-like maneuvrability.

On the other hand, those accustomed to harsh winters and tons of snow each year know what huge difference can a snowmobile make. Although not developed for racing and other fun stuff, the snowmobile is both versatile and industrious, which makes it indispensable in certain areas.

Leaving the practical aspect behind, some think a snowmobile can race. More precisely, it can drag race against the Ariel Atom. But that's no average snowmobile we're talking here. No sir, this is a Polaris 800 Rush Pro-S snowmobile.

It surely feels in its element on ice, but the 230 HP Ariel Atom will no doubt be a hard nut to crack, especially after receiving a set of Grip-It Twist Screws for extra traction.

So, the duel looks like this: the Atom has the power advantage but doesn't excel in the traction department while the 160 HP Polaris snowmobile is a bit underpowered compared to the Atom. However, it can put its resources on the ice more efficiently.

This unique contest called for a unique location, so the two machines headed to the ice runway in Alton Bay, the only FAA approved airport on ice in the US. In between planes landing and taking off, the Ariel Atom and the Polaris snowmobile battled in a drag race involving speeds of over 160 km/h.

So, which one was the winner?
