Are There Two Versions of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R, or Is This a Facelift?

One of our favorite supercar spotters from Germany seems to have filmed two slightly different versions of the Mercedes-AMG GT-R. The only other explanation we have is that one is the GT-R, and the other is a facelift with radical updates.

From the very start, the GT model line was inspired by the Porsche 911. So we can't act surprised by this diversity. But let's look at the video before we jump to conclusions.

The one everyone believes to be the GT R has the exhaust in the middle, just like a Lamborghini. It's flanked by a massive air diffuser, leaving you in no doubt that it's a performance machine from the gods. From the front, the larger intakes and extra winglets are easy to spot.

But the other prototype has the same trunk wing and also features enlarged front intakes. The difference is that its exhaust system is split in two, just like it is on the current GT S. It even seems to add fender flares and much bigger side skirts.

Then again, Mercedes could be making updates to the regular GT model, just like Jaguar did. As a reminder, the F-Type R now boasts 550 hp instead of the 495 it started out with and had also gained AWD. Above that sits the hardcore SVR model.

The latest information suggests the GT R will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. However, many cars have made their FoS debut wearing full camouflage. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine may be tuned to deliver 580 horsepower, enough to make this a 200 mph car tat can reach 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
