It is now safe to say that drifting is a sport and we have to explain that its expansion chart is one of the most unusual we’ve ever seen. Think about it, drift originates in the Japanese mountains, where car enthusiasts were forced to dance with the rear-wheel drive machines by the roads found there.
Drifting exploded several years ago, with roots growing in multiple parts of the world, such as the US and Europe. Arabs subsequently developed their own extreme form of drifting, Hagwalah , one that’s not a sport, but a reckless and stupid activity.
They simply take cars, most of which are front-wheel drive, out on public roads and start swinging them from one lane to another while going through other cars driven by poeple who are just using them for transportation. Accidents obviously happen all the time - this costs lives. The authorities are fighting it (read: beheading), but they haven't managed to keep things under control until now.
However, we now want to show you the alternative to Arab Drifting. This comes from countries in Western Europe, where drifters primarily rely on E30 and E36 BMW 3-Series to do their job. These Western European youngsters tune their Bimmers and then learn to drive them sideways in a manner that not only makes the word extreme sound like an understatement, but also shows quite a lot of precisions. However, all this happiness during organized events, which may not be perfect in terms of safety rules, but are certainly safer than doing this in the daily traffic.
The image above shows a clear example of how drifting is performed in Eastern Europe, with an E30 BMW powersliding on the edge - literally. The action takes place in Poland, with the car belonging to PUZ Drift Team. Applause, ladies and gentlemen drivers!
