It’s been more than a year since Italian bike maker Aprilia pulled the wraps off the RS 660 for the first time, a road machine inspired by the company’s track experience. At about the same time, we were given a first glimpse at the Tuono variant of the bike, and voila, here it is now in full glory.
Aprilia has a habit of following up on RS versions of its bikes with Tuonos, and the 660 is no exception. This new product in their portfolio, described as “the worthy child of the legendary Tuono 1100,” is intended for “new riders, […] but also for younger riders who are moving up from smaller engine capacities looking for a high-level sport naked.”
Sharing a lot with the RS, the Tuono 660 comes with a curb weight of 183 kg (403 lbs) that needs to move along under the power of 95 horsepower generated by the 660cc engine; a version with roughly half the power (35 kW/47 hp) is also on the table.
Riding on an adjustable Kayaba suspension system, the Tuono is a bike of its time, sporting a number of modern-day safety technologies like multi-level traction control, anti-wheelie control, cruise control, engine brake, and an ABS system.
The bike is offered with five riding modes, three dedicated to road travel and two meant for racing at the tracks. Three colors are on the table, Concept Black, Iridium Grey, and Acid Gold, with Acid first shown on the RS and described as never-before-seen in the motorcycle world.
The new junior naked back from Aprilia should be ready to hit American roads by the end of the first quarter, with prices set to start at $10,499.
