It looks like someone at Piaggio is once more looking for MotoGP glory, as a press conference at the 2013 EICMA in Milan, Italy revealed.
Roberto Colaninno, the Piaggio CEO declared that Aprilia, under the Piaggio umbrella for some time now will be rejoining the MotoGP grid as a factory team in 2016.

Colaninno added that Aprilia's goal is no less than having the same success in the Premiere Class as they had in the World Superbike series, with two recent world titles and consistent good placement.

Currenty Aprilia is part of the CRT grid as they are involved with multiple teams and provide the ART engines.

However, the main Aprilia engineering mastermind Gigi Dall'Igna is now the chief of Ducati Corse, with a free hand to bring back glory in Borgo Panigale.

At the same time, Honda and Yamaha are comfortably leading the series, and Suzuki is coming back to the MotoGP grid in 2015, so the road to glory is not going to be an easy one, even if Piaggio decides to finally spend 100 mil or more for the factory program. No other detail have been given.
